Hurricanes Blow Out Tar Heel Women, 61-37

MIAMI - It was a bad day all around for Tar Heel basketball: while the men were being heartbroken at the Smith Center, the Carolina women also fell, 61-37 in an ugly game at Miami.

The Tar Heels upset the #6 Hurricanes in January, but this time it was not to be: Miami forced 35 turnovers, a season high for UNC, and rolled to their 38th straight home victory, the third-longest active streak in the country.

Laura Broomfield scored only seven points, but that was enough to lead the Heels as they racked up their lowest point total ever against an ACC opponent.

With the loss, Carolina drops to 17-7 on the season, 7-4 in conference play. Miami improves to 21-3, 10-1 in the ACC—with that only loss coming to UNC.

The Tar Heels will have a shot at redemption on Sunday, when they’ll be back home to host the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. in Carmichael Arena.
