CVS To Install Fence At 201 N. Greensboro
Abraham Jaroszewski Reporting
CARRBORO - Representatives from CVS Wednesday night announced a plan for the property of the proposed new drugstore—including a temporary chain fence.
The fence is a response to Saturday’s occupation attempt of one of the buildings on the property of the proposed pharmacy. Developer Leigh Polzella said CVS considered a fence earlier in the process, but did not construct one out of respect to the town. After the protests Saturday, she said, liability and vandalism concerns forced the issue.
In the fourth neighborhood meeting over the proposed site, residents from the surrounding area voiced their concerns of the project.
Jackie Tanner, who resides just blocks from the proposed site, said she would prefer "something new and innovative, rather than just trying to copy something and be(ing) vanilla."
Other nearby residents also echoed her sentiments for a more contemporary building.
Still others raised questions involving sustainability and the lack of town input regarding the architectural designs. Polzella responded that the project has many green features, including its roof, and highlighted a proposal to turn adjacent North Greensboro Street into a tree-lined boulevard.
Anti-corporate residents also voiced their displeasure, but others insisted on remaining focused on the agenda.
The advisory board will hold a public meeting March 1 to further discuss the project, with the Board of Aldermen tentatively scheduled to hear the case, but not vote, on March 21.
