CARRBORO - The Town of Carrboro Board of Aldermen unanimously approved David Andrews as the new city manager.
"While there were many outstanding applicants for this job, many people who were qualified for this job, we believe unanimously that the best choice to lead our town government for the future on the staff side is and will be Mr. David Andrews," Chilton said after the vote Tuesday night.
The meeting began with a 30-minute closed meeting before Andrews was named the next town manager. He replaced interim city manager Matt Efird, who had served Carrboro without an assistant for the past seven months.
Mayor Mark Chilton praised Efird for his hard work to the city.
“I’m extremely proud for the job you’ve done for the last seven months. You’ve had this board’s confidence and commitment,” Chilton said. “You’ve done a great job, and I’m looking forward to continuing to work with you after David gets here, but especially working with you on making for a good transition to having our new town manager come in.”
Andrews is slated to take over by March 15.
The process of arriving at a new city manager was a deliberate one that included 15 phone interviews and 3 in person interviews until Andrews was selected.
Andrews has over 20 years of experience in local government, and had recently completed a stint as the Manager of Oro Valley, Arizona, just north of Tucson.
The town was named one of the best places to live by Money Magazine in 2007 and 2008.
