CHAPEL HILL-The Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce recently joined a new nationwide consortium to promote economic development through clean energy policies.

Aaron Nelson is president of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce. He says his local chamber is a member of an organization entitled Chambers for Innovation and Clean Energy, along with 50 other chambers in 27 states.

“Our chamber co-chairs that national organization with the San Francisco Chamber,” says Nelson. “The CEO of the San Francisco Chamber and I have been very blessed with grant resources to help build a national network of business leadership organizations interested in building economic development in this space.”

The national government spends $1 billion on a daily basis to pay for oil imports; the consortium is dedicated to eliminating expenses like these through environmentally friendly solutions.

Nelson says Orange County’s involvement in the organization is especially important because the area is a leader in economic development through clean energy.

“With huge job growth happening in the space of clean energy and clean tech, Orange County’s one of the leading counties in the Southeast for growth there,” he says. “We’re growing several companies in that space, and we’re excited to play a national leadership role in excelling economic development in the clean energy field.”
