"It's a time when we celebrate local restaurants for their participation with this event that brings in important dollars to feed local hungry people," says IFC executive director Chris Moran.
The event honors restaurants for participating in RSVVP Day, held every year on the second Tuesday of November to raise money for hunger relief in Orange County. More than 100 restaurants take part each year, donating 10 percent of their proceeds on that day to the IFC’s Food Pantry and Community Kitchen.
"It demonstrates that we are paying attention to those who are struggling in Orange County, the wider divide between haves and have-nots, and how so many households...are struggling with hunger," says Moran.
3400 Orange County households make use of the IFC's Food Pantry.
This year’s ceremony will honor Caffe Driade, Domino’s Pizza of Carrboro, La Hacienda and Mama Dip’s for ten years of taking part in RSVVP Day; 35 Chinese, Café Parvaneh, Captain John’s Dockside Fish and Crab House, and Top of the Hill for 15 years of participation; and for 20 years of participation, Elmo’s Diner, the Flying Burrito, Hunam Chinese, Ye Olde Waffle House, and Subway in Timberlyne and Glenwood Square.
The event will take place at Top of the Hill on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. Anyone wishing to attend should RSVP by contacting the IFC at 929-6380, extension 14.
The 23rd annual RSVVP Day, meanwhile, will take place on Election Day, Tuesday, November 8.
