CHAPEL HILL-Local nonprofit Extraordinary Ventures plans to recognize community members for pedaling the country to push disability awareness.
Director of Marketing and Communications Megan Ratcliffe says Extraordinary Ventures will host Pi Kappa Phi fraternity members and other riders as a way to give thanks for their commitment to the cause.
“They are going to be travelling on their journey of hope, which is a bike ride across America to spread awareness about people with disabilities. On August 8, we are going to have a day of recognition for their bike ride and honor our local chapter, as well.”
These riders demonstrate their dedication to community service by the physical challenges they endure. Their Journey of Hope is 12,000 miles of cycling, 75 miles a day through 32 states.

Eight locals will participate on the South Route, including Pi Kappa Phi members Cody Poplin, Austin Black, Bradley Fleck, Stefan Hansen, Will McLeane, and Joseph Konerman. Micah Caldwell and Jordan Ransenberg, both natives of the area, will lead the group.
This is the second time Extraordinary Ventures has hosted this celebratory event. Ratcliffe says it’s made all the more special for their crew.
“Extraordinary Ventures crew is staffed by adults with developmental disabilities. So, we are all going to get together and celebrate this occasion.”
